About RoofRangeBase
Last updated: July 22, 2026
RoofRangeBase is a free set of browser calculators for homeowners who want a low / mid / high dollar ballpark before they invite three trucks. You enter roof size in squares or square feet, pick a material family, toggle tear-off when the old covering comes off, and read a dated national installed band (as of 2026-07). Math runs in your browser. No signup. No “get free quotes” form that sells your address.
The product is a planning rail — not a contractor directory, not an insurance ACV worksheet, and not a materials bag-count desk. For shingle bundles and pitch geometry, use a materials site. For the number you sign, hire a licensed roofer who walks the roof.
Who it's for
Kitchen-table budget talks before the first call. Comparing asphalt versus metal on the same footprint. Reading a verbal “about fifteen thousand” against your squares. Checking whether a written bid sits inside a reasonable band — or whether tear-off was quietly left out.
If you already hold a signed, line-item scope from someone who measured the attic and the pitch, trust that paper over our national mid. Use this site earlier — when you need scale, not when you need a stamp.
Ranges, not fake exact totals
Results show low / mid / high because a national table cannot see your attic. Steep access, layer count, ice barrier, HOA color rules, and deck rot move real invoices. We keep those variables visible as contingency (high band, override $/square) instead of pretending one exact total fits every ZIP.
Default asphalt mid with tear-off lands near $650 per square all-in; metal mid with tear-off near $1,150. Those anchors make bid conversations calmer — they are not invoices.
